Arsenal Update: A new Dawn

After all the latest troubles for the Gunners, Arsenal presented in Europe a new dawn, Cesc Fabregas is the new captain and Porto's 2-1 victory in Istanbul sees the Gunners go through with the Portuguese side and they will contest top spot in Group G in Porto in a fortnight's time. There was a hint of controversy to the goal as Kiev did not contest a drop ball and Fabregas picked out Bendtner who fired past visiting keeper Stanislav Bogush at the near post.
Bendtner was booked for removing his shirt in celebration after his first goal since September 23 and an irate Kiev were reduced to ten men shortly after as Olexandr Aliyev was shown a red card for pushing referee Alain Hamer from Luxembourg. Fabregas led the side out but just as he has been for the past week, William Gallas was the central figure in proceedings for much of the match.
An awful mistake from the deposed skipper late in the first-half gifted Ismael Bangoura possession and Gallas was happy to see the Guinean striker's effort come off the outside of the post. It was Kiev's only real effort of the first half which ended with Gallas turning the ball home only for the offside flag to correctly go up.
Arsenal came closest to breaking the deadlock three minutes into the second-half when Bogush made a hash of a Fabregas free-kick. By that time Jack Wilshere had become Arsenal's youngest ever player in Europe, as the 16-year-old replaced Carlos Vela, and he watched Bendtner break his long barren streak in front of goal as Arsenal reached the knockout phase of Europe's premier competition for the sixth consecutive season.

Arsenal FC: Though times

This is the fifth defeat of the season, Arsenal is getting behind in the standing league and they are having problems in the dressing room.
This weekend Arsene Wenger took his boys to Manchester City for a rebound positively from all that was happening, but the effect was the opposite.
The first half was so disappointed that Stephen Ireland scored the lead goal as soon as he could. In the second half the Gunners came strong but in 56th minute Robinho ponder down a little more. 2-0 Manchester City were winning that Arsenal’s boys was felling down. And to finalize Daniel Sturridge penalty made the score look like that Arsenal got the beat of their life.
The Gallas problem made the Frenchman not to board the bus for Manchester and Almunia was the captain in this match. Arsenal was already with some injury problems for Toure, Fabregas, Walcott, Eboue, Rosicky and Eduardo and Gallas problem made him left out for the game too. Van Persie, Djourou and Song are not enough to take the team in their sholder and the lack of players surely dictated this loss.
Even without the top players, Arsenal was very competitive team. Nasri had some good moments and proved again that he is a player to count on.
After the match, Wenger refused to talk about Gallas and kept his lips tight as he could.
“I will not speak about William Gallas in a post-match interview. He is a player who did not play today, so what can we do?
Why should we not talk about Fabregas and the other nine players who are not here? We can stay here till midnight and you will get the same answer to this question.

Arsenal updates: Gallas, captain no more
The obvious happened. At least according to France Football. This internationally respected press reported that Wenger striped down Gallas as captain of the team and Almunia or Clichy will lead the team at Manchester city stadium today.
William Gallas lost the captaincy after making public some of the dressing room problems of the team, the ex-captain said that lots of his team mates complained about a player 6 years younger than the Frenchman and the discussions that he needed to cool off while the match was still in play.
This allegations added to some others that the center-back did in his autobiography (where he reminds everyone that he also was 20 years old once but never talked in the same tone as the Arsenal troublemaker did) cost him the leadership of the team.
Gallas won the chance to be captain of the Gunners when Thierry Henry left in summer 2007. From there to this last interview the captaincy was put in question in February where Arsenal drew 2-2 with Birmingham and in the final whistle William Gallas slumped down in the centre circle visibly upset.

Arsenal News: Dressing room’s heat

Captain Gallas reveals some instability in the dressing room and accuses Arsenal of being a team without any bravery.
According to a recent interview William Gallas made public all his frustrations and some of the bursts within the Emirates Stadium walls. The Frenchman is tired and don’t want to get blamed for the constant friction at Arsenal,
“In one game (Tottenham) I was insulted when I went to talk with a player of my team” explained Gallas saying that he took this action after some team mates complained about a player six years younger than the Captain.
“It was half time and I said that we would solve this problem after the match. This division that is happening between us will damage our quest for the title. I’m not revealing his name but he should respect the eldest of the team”.
William Gallas came to Arsenal from Chelsea in 2006 and it is more than 5 years that Gallas doesn’t get any trophy.
According to Gallas, the Gunners should behave like soldiers and do what they are told to and they should fight like any warrior that goes to a battle. The Arsenal captain considered the team is not being brave enough and they need to face the danger that other brings in the field “we have to be able to face up these attacks.”
The explanation that Gallas give for Arsenal being late in the table is because they don’t play as a team all matches. "There are too many divisions among the players."
This action will bring an end to the Gallas era as a captain because now players know that they can’t trust on their skipper as he will tell the public again what happens in the dressing room

Arsenal updates: The Youngsters did it again

After the win over Sheffield United by 6-0, the kids did it again. This time against Wigan the Gunners presented the same team that played against Sheffield expect Nicklas Bendtner that was replaced by Simpson, a 19 years old youngster that ironically was the player that broke the deadlock three minutes before break.
Simpson was assisted by Jack Wilshere (16 years old and one of the 8 teenagers on the team) with a superb left-foot pass and he scored the opening goal, Simpson was one of the man of the match and always looking to score, just a little before the goal Simpson struck the crossbar.
Carlos Vela also had his opportunity to score too, he made a run from the left back and the goal was denied by the Wigan goalkeeper. The Wigan players can sure appreciate the goalkeeper for delaying the opening goal for Arsenal.
Ramsey tried a curling free kick but the former Liverpool keeper was always sharp and focused and he still head time to catch another shoot from Vela from 25 yards.
The Wigan players never troubled Arsenal goalkeeper, he was one of the public assistance and just watched the match as he’s fellows showed off.
In minute 66 in a counter attack the Gunners score the second goal, this time by Carlos Vela and four minutes later Djourou threads a ball through to Vela who escapes the attentions of Boyce and scores a with a delightful lob over Kirkland.
With 3-0 the Gunner guarantees their victory and stamps their passport to Carling Cup quarter-finals.

Arsenal news: Manchester United gunned down

Frenchman Samir Nasri stung champions Manchester United with two goals at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal secured a deserved 2-1 victory to reignite their Premier League title challenge. Arsenal survived an early storm in a magnificent free-flowing game before the inspired Nasri struck in each half to lift the Gunners above United into third place. Substitute Rafael's late volley for United could not prevent a second league defeat of the season. More worryingly, United have now taken just one point from their clashes with title rivals Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea this season. Arsenal has 23 points from 12 games, three behind leaders Chelsea, who are at Blackburn Rovers on Sunday and Liverpool who host West Bromwich Albion later. United have 21.
Manchester United's players spent time at their training ground with Diego Maradona this week and could have done with the Argentine great finishing ability early on against Arsenal. Michael Carrick volleyed wide, Dimitar Berbatov had a goal ruled out after straying offside and Wayne Rooney blazed a gilt-edged chance over the crossbar in rainy London before Arsenal moved into gear. Nasri, signed from Olympique Marseille in July, opened the scoring for Arsenal after 22 minutes with a deflected shot. He struck again with a thumping right-foot shot just after halftime to give Arsenal a cushion although Rafael's stunning late volley ensured a tense finale.
"It was fantasy football," United manager Alex Ferguson told reporters. "It was like playground football at times...you attack and then we'll attack. Our determination and drive to try and rescue a point was fantastic. It was as good a game of football as you'll see this season."
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was delighted with his injury-hit side's response to being written off as title contenders in some quarters after dropping points at home to Tottenham Hotspur and away to Stoke City.
"We had one accident against Stoke and there was hysteria," Wenger said. "I never doubted the spirit of my players. The difference today was that we took our chances and they didn't."

Arsenal updates: one point

Arsenal lost a good chance to bag three points today for Champions League after a match against Fenerbahce.
The Gunners started since minute 1 to fight for three points as they did a big pressure to win this as soon as they could. At minute 7 Fabregas poke finished narrowly past the post. Next Nasri passed the ball to Fabregas who send it to Van Persie that shoot wide far away.
Half hour has past when Van Persie collects a neat pass from Toure and sends it to the crossbar, since Van Persie didn’t had luck he delivered a nice ball to Nasri but he also couldn’t get the advantage.
In the second half everyone came confident and Van Persie was the first to try his luck, he races through on goal but he Lugano risk a clumsy challenge that bring the Dutchman down and get booked.
Bendtner also try his luck but the ball doesn’t want to get in. Clichy comes forward and tells everyone that he’s going to score but the header goes over top. Quality of chances were a lot but no one took the opportunity, Van Persie tries again this time with a free kick but ball is sent over the top. The match gets to 90 minutes and no goals.
In the end of the match Van Persie admitted that they had chances and lots of them but they didn’t took any of them, he felt frustrated because he was the man with more chances on the team.

Arsenal news: Third defeat

It was a positive Saturday for Arsenal as the time approached for their match against Stoke City; Arsene Wenger believed that nothing strange would happen today, since yesterday was Halloweens day. And yet the unimaginable happened, the Gunners lost again on the Premiership.
2-1 this time, a team that can do wonder and bring happiness to all supporters can also bring disappointment times to times. In the minute 13 (number 13….) Stoke City scored a goal, giving the advantage for the home team thanks to Fuller. It was unbelievable; Wenger gave chance to other players to show that they are worthy but again the “bad luck” attacks. Bacary Sagna and Adebayor got injured after some rough slides by Stoke’s players and the referee never saw one of them.
Van Persie came in in the second half, on minute 65 to be exact, replacing Denilson, in minute 73 Stoke does it again, 2-0, goal by Seyi Olofinjana and now things start to look hard, especially after 2 minutes of the goal when Van Persie gets a straight red card after colliding with Stoke goalkeeper.
The Gunners where down to 10 and 15 minutes to go, there was still time to save the day, the effort of the team was big as they wanted to win or at least draw this, but just near the 90 minutes Walcott gets an injury and left the Gunners play with 9 men only.
Ironically, 1 minute later Clichy gives a goal to Arsenal but it sure wouldn’t help in anything then just to say:
“At least we didn’t lose by 2”
